Accuser's Mom
· Accuser's mom blew the case. The Michael Jackson jury said the prosecution's molestation case was tainted by the mother of the pop star's accuser, whom they found annoying - and a likely scam artist. It was hard to give the mom the benefit of the doubt when the defense blasted her as a liar and a thief, jurors said, and her behavior on the stand did little to win their sympathies. "I disliked it intently when she snapped her fingers at us," said Juror No. 5, a 79-year-old great- grandmother. "That's when I thought, 'Don't snap your fingers at me, lady.' "

Some of the women in the jury also wept and passed around a box of tissues. When it was over, Jackson stood and was embraced by his chief lawyer, Thomas Mesereau Jr., and Yu. Santa Barbara County District Attorney Tom Sneddon sat with his head in his hands.

But, he said, that didn't make Jackson guilty of the charges presented in this case.

Fans outside the courthouse gates chanted "Michael's innocent" as jurors wrapped up another day of deliberations in the Michael Jackson child molestation case. The jury put in only 2 1/2 hours Thursday. The reason for the abbreviated day was not released by the court, but Judge Rodney S. Melville noted last week that some jurors had school graduation ceremonies to attend. Since receiving the case on June 3, the eight women and four men have met for more than 22 hours over five days.

· Jackson's post-trial future hinges on his past. Even if he is acquitted of child sex abuse charges, there seems little doubt pop singer Michael Jackson's moonwalking glory days are behind him - but his superstar past may be the key to salvaging his future. Experts in image management and the music industry say the 46-year-old performer could make a modest comeback singing the hits that made him famous, especially in Europe and Asia, where his following has long surpassed his U.S. stature. Some have suggested he might otherwise carve out a late-career niche as a headliner in Las Vegas, a city of second chances for many performers but a dead end for others.
